HAPPY HOLIDAYS! MORE IN 2012!

© MAS Studio

As 2011 comes to a close, it is time to reflect on the work done during the last 12 months.

It was a year full of proposals, competitions, research, events, publications and exhibitions. We worked on projects of different scope and scale in the US, Spain, Bulgaria and Venezuela.

The opening of our exhibition “Inside Marina City” at the Art Institute of Chicago in September was especially exciting. It was fantastic to be able to share part of the work done during the last three years with Andreas E.G. Larsson in such an amazing venue.

Among other projects, we worked on a housing prototype in New Orleans, a single-family renovation in Galicia, an urban proposal for Cerdanyola del Valles, a subway station in Sofia, and the street identity of the Instituto Cervantes in Chicago.

Earlier this year we also organized Network Reset, an international competition to rethink the Boulevard System of Chicago and its potential role in the city.

MAS Context was also very active, releasing four issues, organizing a one-day event of presentations by emerging and established designers, and presenting the winter issue in Los Angeles. (For more on what we have done this year with MAS Context, check www.mascontext.com)

And finally, the architecture series that we organize with the Instituto Cervantes brought to Chicago the “Young Architects of Spain: A Window to the Unknown” and the “European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award 2011” exhibitions. Architects who lectured included Enrique Sobejano, Antón García-Abril, Studio IDE, Strawn.Sierralta, PORT Architecture + Urbanism, bet.capdeferro and Helmut Jahn.

It was an important year for the office that was the result of the hard work of many people. Thank you to everyone who was part of any of the initiatives, supported us, and shared any of our work or ideas.

A toast to a fantastic 2012, full of ideas and collaborations.
